The John Mitchell sank on 14 November 1917 following collision with the Norwegian steamer Bjerka (which was in use by the British authorities at the time) in a position recorded as 10 miles south east by east of St Alban's Head. The vessel was hired by the Admiralty as a net drifter from February 1915 as Admiralty no. 1065. She was armed with a 3-pounder bow gun. (info: David Wendes)
